Plenty of good vibes at our “Fiesta Latin Party”

A brightly lit room awaited the residents at Inspiritas of Stuart as they gathered around a U-shaped table to enjoy a “Latin Fiesta Party”.

Before long the catchy beats and shimmering wings we used in our lively 45-minute Latin Salsa Show captivated residents and staff alike. And as we danced to songs like “Vivir Mi Vida”, “Livin’ La Vida Loca”, “Samba” and more, a warm atmosphere of joy and community surfaced.

Watching the effects of music on the spirit of people of all ages is one of the greatest benefits of what we do. It not only brings them together but helps to reduce the stress they may be feeling. According to research, listening to music has been shown to reduce cortisol, a human stress hormone, and thus play a valuable role in facilitating well-being.

No performance would be complete without including the audience in easy-to-follow line dances to easily recognizable songs. As seniors and staff bring their smiling faces to the dance floor in our final songs, the positive energy touches all in attendance.

We look forward to cultivating positive vibes again soon at Inspiritas of Stuart.

A colorful and uplifting “Hawaiian Hula Show” for seniors

Not even the grey skies and strong downpours could dampen the spirit of the Hawaiian Luau at The Preserve at Palm Aire. We greeted the residents as they strolled into the brightly decorated ballroom in joyful anticipation of our show.

Our colorful and uplifting 45-minute Hawaiian Hula Show filled the room with recognizable tunes and engaging beats that generated smiles and enthusiasm. We shared our love of dance through choreographies to songs like “Pearly Shells”, “Ote’a Tiruvi”, “Tiny Bubbles”, “Pate Pate” and more.

Because it elicits the endorphins involved in social bonding, music brings us closer to one another. A feeling of connectedness or belonging is a basic human need and contributes positively to all levels of our well-being, no matter our age. According to the American Psychological Association, social isolation is two times as harmful to physical and mental health as obesity.

We could feel those “happy” endorphins and a blossoming sense of community as we danced in and around the tables. And what fun it was to have a staff member join us unexpectedly on stage for our closing number. Her playful spirit greatly contributed to the joyous atmosphere created by the Tahitian line dance.

Can’t wait to create more memories at The Preserve at Palm Aire!

Seniors join the fun of our “Variety 80’s Show”

There’s no doubt our light-hearted Variety 80’s Show was a perfect match for the senior residents at Grand Villa Boynton Beach East. They seemed to be tapping their toes to the beat of the music before we even turned it on.

Our costuming mirrored their celebration of the 80’s with its signature leg warmers and off-the-shoulder tops. But it was the music of our 45-minute Variety Show that inspired and engaged the residents. The activity director added to the enthusiasm by joining in on most of our songs from the side of the room. The joy was contagious as we danced to favorites like “For Your Entertainment”, “Footloose”, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and more.

Music has a way of positively impacting seniors not only psychologically but physically. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, that can include reduced anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improved sleep, mood, alertness, and memory.

The most memorable part of the event was having one of the seniors lead us all in the line dance to “Hot Hot Hot”. Staff, family, and residents left their seats to be a part of the slow-moving line. It was a heartfelt moment of celebrating community and movement.

We look forward to sharing the joy of movement with Grand Villa Boynton Beach East again soon.

Lots of happy seniors at our “Hawaiian Hula Dance Show”

The island vibes were flowing at the Carlisle of Palm Beach when we arrived with our uli ulis (feathered gourd rattles), poi (string with balls at the end), and hand tassels. We set our speaker next to the bar which was filled with brightly colored glasses awaiting a refreshing cocktail. We couldn’t help but feel liberated by the color and energy of the event.

We added the joy of island beats to the room with our 45-minute Hawaiian Hula Show which featured choreographies to Hawaiian favorites like “Bula”, “Rock-A-Hula Baby”, “La Ora Na”, “Maeve”, “Little Grass Shack” and more.

Although not a normal part of aging, seniors have an increased risk of experiencing depression due to changes that often come later in life. A study in the Journal of Clinical Nursing shows that music helps to alleviate depression by reducing cortisol levels.

As the seniors learned some simple moves and joined us in dancing to “The Hukilau Song” nothing but laughter and happiness filled the room. We ended our time together by taking pictures and celebrating familiar faces which contributed to an enhanced sense of community.

Can’t wait to bring another show to our friends at The Carlisle of Palm Beach!

Energizing seniors with a sensational “Latin Salsa Dance Show”

What a joy to bring our Latin Salsa Dance Show to the festivities being held at The Arbor at Delray. Seniors gathered in a bright, welcoming space surrounded by fiesta decor and refreshments. The feeling of friendship they shared with one another brought a special warmth to the Tuesday afternoon event.

Our energizing show further infused the room with the passion of Latin culture. Vibrant costuming complimented our 45-minute show which featured choreographies to songs like “Papa Loves Mambo”, “La Bamba”, “Vivir Mi Vida”, “Mambo Italiano”, “Baby Bonita” and more.

According to a study published in 2022, music-related activities foster enjoyment, socialization, well-being, and the improvement of mental health in older people. As the elderly are increasingly prone to isolation, this can be especially beneficial for those seniors who are healthy as well as those with cognitive decline.

The highlight of our show was when staff and seniors joined us in dancing the “Electric Boogie” and the “Macarena.” It was a moment of connection that brought a feeling of joy to us all.

Nothing feels as good as connecting with others in positive and uplifting ways. We look forward to connecting with them again!

Seniors are engaging with our exciting “Paris Can-Can Dance Show”

It was heartwarming to arrive at The Club at Boynton Beach and watch the seniors find their spots to watch our Paris Can-Can Dance Show. It had been 1 month since our last visit when we performed our Hawaiian Hula Dance Show for them. While we set up our props, many of them recognized us and welcomed us with smiles and stories of what was going on in their lives.

The sequin hats, feather fans, foldable chairs, and lace umbrellas worked synergistically with the familiar music to bring joy to the room and to the hearts of those who were gathered there. Our 45-minute show featured choreographies to songs like “All That Jazz”, “Rum and CocaCola”, “Rock It for Me”, “Crazy in Love”, “Puttin on the Ritz” and more.

According to a study published in The Journal of Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease, there’s a widespread increase in functional brain connectivity following music listening. This connection was palpable in their eyes and their faces.

We closed our show by inviting the audience to share the dance fun with us. It was wonderful to see the kitchen staff step out of the kitchen and enthusiastically join us in the back of the room. They were accompanied by clapping seniors and other staff members dancing in the front of the room.

It feels good to watch happy engaged seniors and smiling staff as we pack up to leave. We look forward to our next visit!
